Περιγραφή
Characteristics and tasting notes of Les Calcaires 2022 by Lucien Crochet
Tasting
Appearance
Beautiful yellow-gold color with golden reflections.
Nose
Subtle at first, the nose gradually reveals iodine and chalky notes accompanied by pastry fragrances subtly underlined by delicate woody touches. With aeration, aromas of ripe lemon and orange enrich the whole.
Palate
The attack is supple, immediately revealing a pleasant palette of yellow fruits. The palate, with its beautiful substance, is distinguished by its density and texture. The fruity expression of yellow fruits brings a sensation of freshness, while the warm finish remains firmly anchored in minerality, revealing the full identity of the terroir.
Service
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature of 50°F.
Food and wine pairing
This Loire white wine pairs ideally with sea bass en papillote, roasted guinea fowl with spices, as well as blanquette de veau (veal stew).
Aging potential
Accessible from today, this cuvée can wait in cellars until around 2030 to reveal its aromatic palette.
A vibrant and complex Loire white wine
The estate
Born from the merger of André Crochet and Lucien Picard's estates, the Domaine Lucien Crochet has gradually developed to reach its current area of 38 hectares in the Sancerre appellation. The vineyard extends mainly over the village of Bué, but also in Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon. While 29 hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, 9 are planted with Pinot Noir.
The vineyard
The estate watches over a vineyard of 35 hectares, including 26 planted with Sauvignon Blanc and 9 hectares of Pinot Noir. At the origin of great Sancerre wines, these vineyards derive their uniqueness from their clay-limestone soils, their mosaic of exposures, and their altitude ranging from 240 to 280 meters.
The wine
Les Calcaires by Lucien Crochet is a white Sancerre wine produced from a rigorous selection of plots planted exclusively on clay-limestone soils (caillottes and griottes).
The vintage
A mild winter favors early budding, followed by a May with warm and dry conditions ideal for plant development. Homogeneous flowering before a humid June. The veraison is ideal. The heat persists until the harvest begins on August 31.
Vinification and aging
Hand-harvested. Light pressing followed by cold settling for 24 to 36 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aging on total lees for 7 months before racking and additional aging on fine lees for 10 months.
Grape variety
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
